La Sardegna e il commercio etrusco arcaico

Abstract

Prendendo le mosse dalla notevole letteratura dedicata recentemente al tema del commercio estero etrusco, l’Autore discute le testimonianze archeologiche relative al periodo arcaico, concentrando l’attenzione soprattutto sul caso-studio della Sardegna. Le ampie evidenze materiali restituite dall’isola sono discusse alla luce del recente dibattito sul dinamismo commerciale etrusco nel contesto mediterraneo, con particolare enfasi sia sull’area nord-occidentale (Gallia ed Iberia) che sulla Sicilia e il nord-Africa. Mettendo a confronto i differenti dossier, l’Autore giunge alla conclusione che il caso sardo presenta alcune peculiarità degne di nota e non rientra nel quadro tracciato da quegli studiosi che identificano veri e propri fondaci etruschi in tutti gli angoli del Mediterraneo in cui si registrano abbondanti importazioni etrusche (anfore da trasporto e vasellame da tavola). Particolare attenzione è riservata alle premesse locali del commercio estero etrusco e agli stretti rapporti esistenti fra sistema produttivo delle città dell’Etruria meridionale costiera e rete commerciale tirrenica.

Starting from the remarkable literature recently devoted to the Etruscan international trade, the Author discusses the archaeological evidence referring to the archaic period, with particular attention to the Sardinian case-study. The wide material evidence from this island is discussed in the light of recent debate about the Etruscan trading dynamism in the whole Mediterranean context, with particular emphasis on both the north-western area (Gallia and Iberia) and Sicily and North Africa. Comparing the different dossiers of Etruscan imports, the Author argues that the Sardinian pattern shows a noteworthy distinctiveness and doesn’t fit very well with the picture currently adopted by some scholars, who tend to identify true Etruscan trade-posts in each corner of the Mediterranean where abundant Etruscan imports, in particular transport-amphorae and table-ware, are recorded. Particular attention is devoted to the local requirements of Etruscan international trade and the strong connections between production system and trade organization.
